The Hulah Lake Christmas Bird Count will take place on Saturday, December 16th from sunrise to sundown. A chili supper will be hosted at the Sutton Center later in the evening to swap stories. Volunteers are welcome and no experience is necessary. Beginning birders will be placed with experienced volunteers. Each count takes places within a circle 15 miles in diameter, and each circle is divided into areas covered by teams of birders. Volunteers locate, identify and count as many birds as possible in each area. Some areas involve significant walking while other areas are surveyed mostly from the car, so a variety of abilities can be accommodated. Christmas Bird Counts are the longest continuous bird monitoring program in North America, and provide valuable information on changing bird populations.
