On August 31, the Bartlesville Symphony Orchestra will present a tradition that began in 2012 – Fables and Fairytales”. It is the Orchestra’s annual gift to fifth-grade students from all over northeast Oklahoma and southern Kansas. This highly-anticipated, popular regional music event has grown in attendance every year, with 1,700 young people expected this month.
With the breathtakingly beautiful, and acoustically superior Bartlesville Community Center as the event backdrop, the concert serves as both an introduction to music and a unique opportunity for students to be exposed to several instruments at one time– on one stage– in a real performance setting. The timing is perfect as the school year is just beginning. Students will see and hear over 60 professional players-experienced musicians who are the pulse of the BSO.
Students will be filing into their seats beginning at 12 p.m. and “Fables and Fairytales” starts at 12:45 p.m. with Maestro Green talking to the students and getting them excited about the performance. The students will hear selections dramatically narrated Maria Gus, an actress and the Executive Director of the BCVB. The colorful multi-media visual aids overhead on the screen help to share the story with the students and increase the overall experience of the day.
If you are a member of the media wishing to attend, please RSVP by August 27th using one of the contact methods listed above. For more information on the Bartlesville Symphony Orchestra, visit online at bartlesvillesymphony.org
