Thompson Brothers reps attend industry expo

(November 28, 2016) – In efforts to stay abreast of industry trends for the benefit of their customers in southeast Kansas and northeast Oklahoma, representatives from Thompson Brothers Welding & Industrial Supply recently joined thousands of international guests attending the annual FABTECH 2016 expo in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Thompson Brothers staff were among approximately 31,000 attendees and 1,500 exhibitors from more than 120 countries who participated in the show November 17-18 to experience targeted educational programs and vendor demonstrations related to the latest trends and technologies impacting the industries of welding and fabrication. Billed as “North America’s largest metal forming, fabricating, welding and finishing event,” FABTECH 2016 co-sponsors included: The Fabricators & Manufacturers Association International; the SME manufacturing technology and workforce development organization; the American Welding Society (AWS); the Precision Metalforming Association (PMA); and the Chemical Coaters Association International (CCAI).

“While our company focuses on a defined geography here in southeast Kansas and northeast Oklahoma, we make it a priority to continually advance our knowledge about technology improvements and forecasted changes in the industry on a global scale,” said Sales/Marketing Manager Ryan Thompson. “Staying current and continuing to innovate is how we help our customers remain competitive in their businesses.”

Thompson said a particular theme evident at this year’s show was the industry’s trend toward increased use of automation. Several vendor exhibits and presentations focused on the advantages of automation, touting fairly simple to very high-tech robotics systems used for welding, cutting and picking processes.

“While we keep our eye on both international developments and opportunities for growth in our own corner of the world, we’re proud to remain rooted in the small-town, American values on which my grandfather and great-uncle founded our company almost 70 years ago,” he said.

Today a full-line distributor of welding equipment, safety supplies and industrial gases, Thompson Brothers was established in Coffeyville in 1948 by Clarence “Tommy” Thompson and Don Thompson. The company added a store in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, in 1997, and earlier this year expanded to locations in Chanute and Fredonia with the acquisition of Denison Welding Supply.
