Price Tower Arts Center Welcomes the school of Architecture taliesin

The Price Tower and Bartlesville Community Center are reaching back to their roots to provide an opportunity that has seldom happened in the history of Frank Lloyd Wright’s legacy. When Bartlesvllle citizens voted to build an urban green connecting the Price Tower and Bartlesville Community Center, little did they realize the signal to the world…the Tower is alive!

Frank Lloyd Wright was well-known for his school of architecture, called the Taliesin Fellowship. These talented students and architects worked alongside Mr. Wright for over 25 years, many staying with him through their entire careers. The Fellowship lives on today in the form of the School of Architecture Taliesin (SOAT).

We are pleased to announce 13 SOAT students and faculty will be in Bartlesville Saturday, September 15, until Tuesday, September 18 to take part of the design of The Community Green.

Price Tower is the only realized skyscraper designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The Bartlesville Community Center was designed by William Wesley Peters, Mr. Wright’s protégé and son-in-law. It is only fitting that Taliesin students be invited to help marry the two structures.

The students will attend Indian Summer, northeast Oklahoma’s premiere American Indian Festival, held on the ground that will become The Community Green next year. They will immerse themselves in the festival, interview participants, and study how the space might function. That afternoon will be open to questions and answers of students and the public.

On Monday, September 17 and Tuesday, September 18, the students will divide into teams and participate in a Design Charrette, an intensive period of design used in architectural programs. Typically the designers work until the final moments, throwing down their pens at the announced completion of the Design Charrette. The public is invited to watch the design students as they work feverishly to come up with their vision for The Community Green. Once the Charrette is over the doors will be closed to the public and reopened for presentations of their work to the Community Green Design Committee. Prior to the student presentations there will be a question and answer period devoted to members of the press. Please join us for this exciting once in a lifetime opportunity.
