Woolaroc Museum & Frank Phillips Home Announce Re-Opening

Bob Fraser, Chief Executive Officer of The Frank Phillips Foundation, announced today the plans for the re-opening of Woolaroc and The Frank Phillips Home.  “Unless reporting data directs us otherwise, our plan today is to open in phases and we will be closely monitoring health department data as we proceed.  At Woolaroc, we intend to re-open the Museum, Lodge, Mountain Man Camp (on a limited basis), Bunkhouse and Walking Trails on Wednesday, May 20th.  Initially, we will limit how many guests will be allowed in each gallery, gift shop and the Lodge.  Our plan is to re-open The Frank Phillips Home on Wednesday, June 3 and we will limit the size of each tour in order to insure safe social distancing.   Our number one focus continues to be the health and safety of our employees, docents and guests.  Fortunately, at Woolaroc we have 3,700 acres and the museum has 50,000 square feet which makes social distancing a bit easier for us.  Our employees who are dealing with the public will be required to wear masks and while we encourage guests to do the same, it will not be required.”

Fraser stated that if everything goes well with Phase One and provided there are no new restrictions imposed by the city or state, Woolaroc plans to open the Animal Barn, Playground, and Buffalo Haunt concessions on Tuesday, June 9th.  Also, large events such as weddings, birthdays, and corporate events will be allowed beginning June 9th.  “For this to work, we are trusting that our guests will observe social distancing and stay as spread out as possible in the museum, lodge and elsewhere.   We all want to re-open, we just need to err on the side of caution right now.”

According to Fraser, “this has been a difficult time for guests, employees and docents, but the importance of everyone’s health remained our top priority.  We, as well as many others, have had to make some very hard decisions.  For us, two of those have been the cancellation of Kidsfest and Camp Woolaroc for 2020, two of our favorite events of the year.  On a brighter note, we have taken the opportunity during this closure, to get a lot of extra work done at Woolaroc, from new coats of stain on several buildings, planting our flowerbeds, mending fences and other projects.  We have hosted free drive-thru days that the public has loved and so far we have had over 18,000 guests drive through….so we have tried to make the best of this difficult time.  Our thanks to everyone for their patience, understanding and support and we look forward to seeing you again very soon!”

Woolaroc is open Wednesday thru Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm….we will be open Memorial Day (May 25th) and that starts our summer season (open Tues-Sunday, closed on Mondays).
