Bravura Dansu is proud to partner with OKM to present StoryBook Dancers at this year’s June Festival on June 9 at 10:30 a.m. in Ambler Hall, 415 S. Dewey Ave., in downtown Bartlesville.
StoryBook Dancers first performed at the Methodist Children’s Hospital in San Antonio, Texas in 2017 as part of a program to entertain patients with long-term illnesses or injuries. Since then, the dance company has expanded from two dancers to an eclectic mix of personalities that offer a variety of styles of dance along with a myriad of published writings from board books to fables & parables and early readers. It also offers stage productions of chapter books or themes from textbooks. The dance company partners with educational institutions and homeschool co-ops, libraries, churches, and arts & entertainment organizations to provide performances and movement classes for preschoolers and students in K-12.
StoryBook Dancers was created to combine music, dance and literature in order to produce a desire for children to explore the arts while also improving reading skills. The group was founded by and is currently directed and choreographed by Mikala & Gianna Curless, sisters who often dance as a duet at special events and festivals. Prior to coming to Bartlesville, the Curless sisters taught dance at studios in Missouri and Texas and as exchange students in China. They also worked as freelance dancers for Ballet Hispanico de San Antonio and other regional companies before working full-time for Joffrey Ballet-New York in Administration. Currently, they work full-time for OKM in development/administration and marketing while also teaching part-time at Bartlesville Civic Ballet.
StoryBook Dancers is available to perform at schools, libraries, churches, festivals, community venues and special events such as parties, weddings or family reunions. To book the group for your event, call 918-332-0773.
